SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Middlesbrough
Salary: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Date: September 2026

A welcoming and inclusive school in Middlesbrough is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This SEN Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and helping them reach their full potential in a nurturing and supportive environment.
The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide both 1:1 and small group interventions to promote engagement, independence and academic progress.
Key Responsibilities of the SEN Teaching Assistant:

Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN.

Supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and additional learning needs.

Implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and targeted interventions.

Promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and classroom engagement.

Using de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies where appropriate.

Adapting learning resources to meet individual pupil needs.

Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals.

Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
The Ideal SEN Teaching Assistant Will:

Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEN.

Be patient, caring and adaptable in approach.

Have experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH or complex learning needs.

Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Hold Team Teach training (desirable but not essential).

Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).

Have a fully checkable work history.
