GSL Education are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils in schools across North Tyneside. About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional emotional, social, and behavioural support. You'll provide tailored 1:1 and small group interventions, helping students build confidence, develop coping strategies, and engage positively in school life.

This part-time role offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience while making a lasting impact on the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Build positive, trusting, and professional relationships with students
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies
  • Encourage confidence, resilience, and independence
  • Promote engagement in learning and school activities
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Assist in implementing individual support and behaviour plans
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
  • Uphold safeguarding and school policies at all times

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals is desirable
  • Understanding of SEMH needs or behaviour support strategies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Ability to motivate and encourage young people
  • Flexible, reliable, and committed to supporting student wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
