GSL are seeking a dedicated School Support Worker to join a supportive SEN school setting in Maldon, working with pupils with SEN (Special Educational Needs), SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health), ASD, ADHD and additional learning needs. This is a full-time role supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis, helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and engage positively in school life.

You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff and support teams to help students overcome barriers to learning, with a focus on behaviour support, emotional regulation, engagement, communication and wellbeing.

If you are an experienced School Support Worker, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Learning Mentor, Youth Worker, Care Worker, Residential Support Worker, Sports Coach or Graduate, this role would suit someone who is patient, resilient and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and barriers to learning.

You will have opportunities for professional development and will support students in a range of areas, including:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Supporting learning across a range of subjects in and out of the classroom
  • Promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement
  • Supporting students with communication needs, social interaction and confidence building
  • Assisting with EHCP targets, individual support plans and intervention strategies
  • Supporting students during transitions, breaktimes and unstructured periods
  • Using de-escalation strategies and positive reinforcement approaches
  • Helping to create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment

As a School Support Worker, you will play a key role in helping students access education in a meaningful and supported way. You will work as part of a wider team to ensure consistency, structure and a trauma-informed, inclusive approach across the school.

Salary Scale: £92.59-£120 per day(depending on experience)

Contract Type: Full-time

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Support pupils with behaviour, engagement and emotional regulation
  • Assist learning across the curriculum in a specialist SEN environment
  • Implement EHCP targets and personalised support strategies
  • Support communication, confidence building and social development
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
  • Support behaviour using calm, consistent de-escalation strategies
  • Assist students during lessons, transitions and unstructured times
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH or additional needs
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Patient, calm, resilient and adaptable approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Experience in education, care, youth work, support work or similar roles desirable
  • Passion for inclusion, wellbeing and supporting vulnerable learners
  • Team-focused with a proactive attitude
