Are you a passionate Vocational Teacher who thrives on engaging young people through practical, hands-on learning? Do you have the skills to inspire students who have become disengaged from mainstream education?

GSL Education Hull is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Vocational Teacher to join a supportive Alternative Provision in Hull from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact by delivering vocational and employability-focused learning to students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, SEND, and those who require an alternative approach to education.

Whether you're a Motor Vehicle Teacher, Construction Teacher, Engineering Teacher, Design Technology (DT) Teacher, Hospitality Teacher, Hair & Beauty Teacher, Sport Teacher, or teach any other vocational subject, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role as a Motor Vehicle Teacher you will:

  • Deliver engaging, practical lessons that develop students' vocational skills and confidence.
  • Adapt learning to meet the needs of pupils with SEMH, SEND and challenging behaviour.
  • Inspire students through hands-on, real-world learning experiences.
  • Support learners in achieving recognised vocational qualifications where appropriate.
  • Promote employability skills, independence and personal development.
  • Build positive relationships that encourage attendance, engagement and achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, support staff and external agencies to remove barriers to learning.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

The Ideal Vocational Teacher:

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or has significant vocational teaching or industry experience.
  • Has experience working within Alternative Provision, SEND, PRU, SEMH or Further Education settings (desirable).
  • Has experience teaching Motor Vehicle, Construction, Engineering, Design Technology (DT), Hospitality, Hair & Beauty, Sport, or another vocational subject.
  • Can deliver practical, engaging lessons that motivate reluctant learners.
  • Has excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Is resilient, patient and committed to supporting vulnerable young people.
  • Has an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Why Join GSL Education?

  • Competitive daily rates of pay.
  • Long-term placement with the potential for a permanent position.
  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement.
  • Access to high-quality CPD and safeguarding training.
  • Opportunities to work within specialist education settings across Hull and the East Riding.
  • A chance to make a genuine difference to young people who need positive role models and practical pathways to success.

GSL Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
