Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Contract: Part-Time, Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

Are you a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with additional needs?

GSL Education are hiring a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to work within local schools in Scarborough and the surrounding areas. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to access learning, build confidence, and achieve their individual goals in a positive and inclusive educational environment.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to provide personalised support for students with a range of additional needs. Your encouragement and guidance will play a vital role in promoting both academic progress and emotional wellbeing.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Assist students with a range of needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties, and moderate learning difficulties
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual learning needs
  • Encourage student participation, confidence, and independence within the classroom
  • Support positive behaviour and help students develop effective social and emotional skills
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to implement individual learning plans
  • Monitor student progress and communicate observations to relevant staff members
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN or educational setting
  • Knowledge or experience of supporting students with additional learning needs is highly desirable
  • A patient, caring, and resilient approach to supporting young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to adapt to individual learner needs
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
