Contract: Part time, Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 per annum

GSL Education are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and dedicated Physical Education Teacher to work within secondary schools in York and the surrounding areas.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated educator to deliver engaging Physical Education lessons that encourage participation, skill development, and personal achievement. The successful candidate will be passionate about sport and fitness, helping students develop confidence, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for physical wellbeing.
About the Role:
As a Physical Education Teacher, you will deliver high-quality Physical Education lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing students with opportunities to develop their practical skills, fitness levels, and understanding of healthy lifestyles. You will create an inclusive environment where all learners are encouraged to participate, challenge themselves, and achieve their personal best.
You may also have the opportunity to contribute to extracurricular sports clubs, fixtures, and enrichment activities that enhance students’ experiences beyond the classroom.
Core Responsibilities of the PE Teacher:
- Plan and deliver engaging PE lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Teach a range of sports, physical activities, and health-related topics
- Encourage participation, teamwork, and positive attitudes towards physical activity
- Differentiate lessons to support students of varying abilities and fitness levels
- Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing constructive feedback
- Promote safe practice and ensure adherence to health and safety procedures
- Maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom management
- Support extracurricular sports activities, competitions, and school events where appropriate
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support student achievement and wellbeing
As the Ideal PE Teacher, You Should Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification
- Experience teaching Physical Education within a secondary school setting
- Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for sport and physical activity
- Ability to inspire and motivate learners of all abilities
- Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and student wellbeing
- A proactive and collaborative approach to teaching and learning
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience teaching within an educational setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
