Teacher of Science
Location:

Contract: Part-Time, Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £168.80 – £261.79 per day

Are you an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of Science looking to ignite curiosity and inspire the next generation of scientists?

GSL Education are searching for a committed Teacher of Science to undertake short-term cover and long-term placements within local schools in York and the surrounding areas. This is an exciting opportunity to work in supportive educational environments where you can help students develop a deeper understanding of the world through scientific enquiry and discovery.

As a Teacher of Science, you will deliver engaging and practical lessons that encourage students to think critically, investigate scientific concepts, and develop the skills needed for academic success. Whether your specialism is Biology, Chemistry, or Physics, you will play a key role in fostering a passion for science among learners.

Teacher of Science Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality Science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Teach engaging content across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, or within your specialist area
  • Encourage scientific enquiry, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Support students of varying abilities to achieve their academic potential
  • Assess, monitor, and record student progress effectively
  • Prepare students for examinations and practical assessments
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support student achievement and wellbeing
  • Contribute to extracurricular Science activities and enrichment opportunities where appropriate

Teacher of Science Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Specialism in Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline
  • Experience teaching Science at secondary school level
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • A passion for science education and student development
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities
  • Ability to deliver engaging practical and theoretical lessons
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
