Salary: £168.80 – £261.79 per day

GSL Education are currently hiring a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of English to work in secondary schools across York and the surrounding areas. As a Teacher of English, you will play a vital role in helping students develop their literacy, analytical, and critical thinking skills. You will deliver engaging lessons that encourage learners to explore a wide range of literary texts, refine their written communication, and build confidence in expressing their ideas.

Main Responsibilities as a Teacher of English:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons in line with the national curriculum and examination specifications.
  • Teach both English Language and English Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4, with Key Stage 5 experience being advantageous.
  • Inspire students to develop a love of reading, writing, and literary analysis.
  • Support learners in developing strong communication, comprehension, and critical thinking skills.
  • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of students with varying abilities and educational needs.
  • Assess, monitor, and record student progress, providing constructive feedback to support achievement.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement, and academic performance.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, enrichment activities, and whole-school literacy initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and carers to support student success.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that promotes a love of learning.

Teacher of English Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge of English Language and English Literature.
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to motivate, engage, and inspire students of all abilities.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
