Early Years Teaching Assistant (Team Teach)
Location: County Durham
Salary: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible
A welcoming and supportive school in County Durham is seeking a dedicated Early Years Teaching Assistant with Team Teach experience to join their team. This Early Years Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young children in their early development while helping to create a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment.
The successful Early Years Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers and early years staff to support children through play-based learning, classroom activities and daily routines. Experience using Team Teach strategies and supporting children with additional needs or behaviours that are challenging would be highly beneficial.
Key Responsibilities of the Early Years Teaching Assistant:

Supporting children within the Early Years setting.

Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

Assisting with play-based learning and educational activities.

Supporting communication, language and social development.

Promoting positive behaviour and engagement in learning.

Using Team Teach strategies and de-escalation techniques where appropriate.

Supporting children with additional needs, including SEND and SEMH needs.

Assisting with classroom preparation and daily routines.

Helping to create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.
The Ideal Early Years Teaching Assistant Will:

Have previous experience working within an Early Years or Nursery setting.

Hold Team Teach training or have experience using positive behaviour support strategies.

Have experience supporting children with additional needs or behaviours that are challenging.

Be patient, nurturing and adaptable in approach.

Have strong communication and teamwork skills.

Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).

Have a fully checkable work history.
