Learning Mentor
Location: North Yorkshire
Contract: Part-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and inspiring Learning Mentor to work within schools across North Yorkshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping students reach their full potential. The successful candidate will work closely with young people who may require additional support with their confidence, engagement, attendance, behaviour, or personal development, helping them to thrive both academically and emotionally.
About the Role:
As a Learning Mentor, you will act as a trusted source of support for students, helping them navigate challenges that may impact their educational journey. You will work proactively to identify barriers to learning and implement strategies that encourage positive outcomes, improved engagement, and increased self-belief.
The role involves working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, families, and external agencies to ensure learners receive the support they need to succeed.
Core Responsibilities of the Learning Mentor:
- Build positive and supportive relationships with students across a range of age groups
- Provide targeted mentoring to learners who require additional guidance and encouragement
- Support students in developing confidence, motivation, and effective learning habits
- Help identify and address barriers that may affect attendance, behaviour, or academic progress
- Deliver intervention sessions focused on personal development and wellbeing
- Encourage positive decision-making, self-regulation, and resilience
- Liaise with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and parents/carers to support student outcomes
- Maintain accurate records of mentoring activities and student progress
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive school culture
As the Ideal Learning Mentor, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people in education, mentoring, youth work, coaching, or support services
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to build rapport and establish professional, trusting relationships
- A patient, empathetic, and motivational approach
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider support team
- A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve positive outcomes
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
