Are you a skilled and enthusiastic Maths Tutor with a passion for helping young people build confidence in Mathematics? Do you have the ability to break down complex concepts, inspire a positive attitude towards learning, and support students in achieving their academic goals?

GSL Education are currently hiring a skilled Maths Tutor to work within a secondary school setting in North Yorkshire. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tutor, qualified teacher, graduate, or education professional who is committed to raising attainment and helping students develop the mathematical skills they need for future success.

As a Maths Tutor, you will provide targeted academic support to students across a range of abilities. Working on a one-to-one basis and with small groups, you will help learners strengthen their understanding of key mathematical concepts, close knowledge gaps, and improve their confidence in the subject.

Main Responsibilities as a Maths Tutor:

  • Deliver high-quality Maths tuition sessions tailored to individual student needs.
  • Support students in developing their understanding of topics such as number, algebra, geometry, ratio, and statistics.
  • Identify learning gaps and create targeted intervention strategies to improve attainment.
  • Prepare students for assessments, examinations, and coursework requirements.
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit different learning styles and abilities.
  • Encourage students to develop confidence, resilience, and independent learning skills.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback where required.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support wider educational objectives.
  • Create a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
  • Promote high expectations and a growth mindset towards learning Mathematics.

Maths Tutor Minimum Requirements:

  • A degree in Mathematics or a related subject, or relevant tutoring/teaching experience.
  • Previous experience supporting secondary-aged students in Mathematics is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of the mathematics curriculum and examination requirements.
  • Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan targeted support sessions.
  • A patient, encouraging, and student-centred approach to learning.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
