Job Title: English Tutor
Location: North Yorkshire
Contract: Part Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £25 – £35 per hour

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a motivated and knowledgeable English Tutor to work within schools across North Yorkshire.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is passionate about English education and enjoys working closely with young people to support their academic progress. The successful candidate will provide targeted support to students, helping them improve their reading, writing, comprehension, and communication skills while developing confidence in their abilities.
About the Role:
As an English Tutor, you will work with students on an individual and small-group basis, delivering focused support that complements classroom learning. You will help learners overcome barriers to achievement, reinforce key curriculum concepts, and prepare them for assessments and examinations.
This role is ideal for experienced tutors, graduates with strong English knowledge, aspiring teachers, or education professionals who are committed to helping students achieve their best.
Key Responsibilities of the English Tutor:
- Deliver tailored English intervention sessions to individuals and small groups
- Support students in developing reading, writing, grammar, and comprehension skills
- Reinforce classroom learning and help close gaps in understanding
- Adapt learning activities to suit different abilities and learning styles
- Encourage learner confidence, independence, and engagement
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate
- Support students in preparing for assessments and examinations
- Build positive relationships that motivate and inspire learners to succeed
- Contribute to a supportive and inclusive learning environment
As the Ideal English Tutor, You Should Have:
- Strong knowledge of English Language and Literature
- Experience tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or supporting young people in an educational setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt approaches to individual needs
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
- A patient, encouraging, and enthusiastic approach to learning support
- Commitment to helping students achieve positive outcomes
- A degree in English or a related subject would be advantageous but is not essential
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with young people or within an educational setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
