Salary: £92 - £115 per day

Are you a compassionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people with additional needs in a college setting?

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work within a further education environment in York and the surrounding areas. This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners with high needs and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access education, engage fully in college life, and achieve positive progression outcomes.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide tailored in-class and individual support to students, ensuring they are able to participate in learning activities, develop independence, and reach their full potential in a fully inclusive learning environment.

Learning Support Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to learners with high needs and SEND
  • Support students to access the curriculum and engage in college learning activities
  • Assist learners with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, SEMH, Speech and Language needs, Dyspraxia, and Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties
  • Promote independence, confidence, and progression in learning
  • Adapt resources and support strategies to meet individual learner needs
  • Work closely with tutors, support teams, and external professionals
  • Encourage positive behaviour, communication, and social development
  • Support students in developing life skills and preparing for future progression
  • Maintain accurate records of progress and support provided

Learning Support Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with young people or adults with SEND is essential or highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of Special Educational Needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and communication difficulties
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting learners with complex needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with students and staff
  • A flexible and proactive approach to supporting individual learning needs
  • An understanding of safeguarding and working within a further education setting is desirable
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
