Job Title: Pastoral Support Assistant
Location: North Yorkshire
Contract: Part Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 - £115 per day

GSL Education are currently looking for a committed Pastoral Support Assistant to work within a secondary school setting in North Yorkshire. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about safeguarding, student welfare, and ensuring that every young person feels supported, valued, and ready to learn.
As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students who may be experiencing difficulties related to attendance, behaviour, emotional wellbeing, or personal circumstances. You will work closely with pastoral leaders, safeguarding teams, and teaching staff to provide timely and effective support that helps students remain engaged in their education.
Core Responsibilities as a Pastoral Support Assistant:
- Provide pastoral care and support to students across a range of year groups.
- Build trusting relationships with students to promote wellbeing, resilience, and positive behaviour.
- Support students with attendance, punctuality, and engagement in learning.
- Assist in identifying and supporting students who may be at risk of disengagement.
- Work closely with safeguarding and pastoral teams to implement support strategies.
- Support behaviour management interventions and restorative approaches where needed.
- Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to support student welfare.
- Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing concerns.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to help students navigate challenges.
- Contribute to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment.
Pastoral Support Assistant Minimum Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people in a pastoral, mentoring, youth work, or school support role is desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships quickly.
- A calm, empathetic, and professional approach when supporting vulnerable students.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Ability to remain resilient and supportive in challenging situations.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people’s wellbeing and development.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
