Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: North Yorkshire
Contract: Part Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 - £115 per day
Are you a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant looking to support young people in overcoming barriers to learning and achieving their full potential?
GSL Education are searching for an enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to work within local schools in North Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who have Special Educational Needs, supporting their academic progress, personal development, and overall wellbeing within a supportive school environment.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students access learning, engage positively in lessons, and develop the skills they need to become more independent and confident learners.
SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in classroom settings
- Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions to support learning and progress
- Assist in adapting learning materials to meet individual student needs
- Support students in developing communication, literacy, and numeracy skills
- Encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional regulation
- Work alongside teachers and SENCOs to implement individual learning plans
- Help create a structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Monitor student progress and contribute to feedback and reviews
- Support students in developing independence and confidence in their learning
SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable
- Experience supporting students with SEN, ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or learning difficulties is highly desirable
- A patient, caring, and resilient approach to supporting learners
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students and staff
- A proactive and flexible attitude to supporting individual needs
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
