Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: North Yorkshire
Contract: Part Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 - £115 per day

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to work within schools across North Yorkshire.
This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people and promoting positive behaviour. The successful candidate will work closely with students who may require additional guidance, helping them to engage with learning, develop confidence, and build the skills needed to thrive in an educational environment.
About the Role:
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will provide targeted support to students who may face behavioural, social, emotional, or learning challenges. Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams, and support staff, you will help create a safe, structured, and supportive environment where students can make positive choices and reach their full potential.
The role may involve working with individual learners, small groups, or supporting within mainstream classroom settings, depending on the needs of the school.
Key Responsibilities of the Behaviour Support Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students requiring behavioural or emotional support
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage engagement with learning
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students and act as a positive role model
- Support the implementation of behaviour management strategies and intervention plans
- Assist students in developing social skills, resilience, and emotional regulation
- Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to support student progress
- Monitor and record student behaviour, engagement, and development
- Help maintain a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment
- Support students during lessons, social times, and other school activities where required
As the Ideal Behaviour Support Assistant, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, coaching, mentoring, care, or support settings
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations
- Confidence in building positive relationships and managing behaviour effectively
- A resilient, proactive, and empathetic approach
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
- A genuine commitment to supporting young people's wellbeing and development
- Experience supporting students with SEMH needs, SEND, or challenging behaviour would be advantageous
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
