Job Title: SEMH Support Staff
Location: Barnsley
Salary: £460 – £600 per week
Contract Type: Full-time, long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately

About the Role:
As SEMH Support Staff, you will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support pupils who may present with challenging behaviour or require additional emotional support. You will help pupils regulate emotions, stay engaged in learning and develop positive coping strategies within a safe and structured environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs across the classroom and in targeted interventions

  • Assist teaching staff in managing behaviour and promoting positive engagement

  • Provide 1:1 and small group emotional and learning support

  • Help de-escalate challenging situations calmly and consistently

  • Encourage positive routines, resilience and self-regulation strategies

  • Contribute to a safe, structured and supportive learning environment

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable

  • Understanding of SEMH needs or challenging behaviour is an advantage

  • Calm, patient and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team

  • A genuine interest in supporting emotional and behavioural development
