Looking for a Sports Coach / Learning Support in Sheffield!
Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 – £650 per week
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately
GSL Education is seeking motivated individuals with a background in sports, coaching, or fitness to work in secondary school settings across Sheffield in a school-based support capacity. This is not a PE teaching role, but a classroom-focused position where you will support learning, behaviour, and engagement across the school day.
This is a strong route into education for those looking to transfer skills from sport into structured school environments, supporting young people with behaviour, focus, and participation in lessons.
About the Role:
This Sports Coach / Learning Support role involves working within secondary schools to support students in lessons, assist teaching staff, and help maintain a positive learning environment. Your sporting background will be used as a foundation for building rapport, managing behaviour, and encouraging engagement, rather than delivering sports coaching sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Support teachers in classroom-based learning activities across secondary settings
-
Supervise and support students during lessons as learning support or cover supervision
-
Use sports background skills to encourage engagement, structure and positive behaviour
-
Assist with maintaining focus and reducing disruption in the classroom
-
Support small groups or individual students where required, including SEN support
-
Help create a safe, structured and productive learning environment
-
Provide feedback to teaching staff on student behaviour and engagement
Requirements:
-
Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth work or similar transferable experience
-
Confidence working with young people in a school environment
-
Strong communication and behaviour management skills
-
Ability to adapt quickly to classroom-based roles and routines
-
Professional, reliable and proactive approach
-
Genuine interest in supporting education and student development
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals in Sheffield looking to move from sport into education, using their coaching experience in a meaningful school-based support role.

-
Have the right to work in the UK
-
