GSL Education are searching for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to work within local schools in North Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning, build confidence, and achieve meaningful progress in their education.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to provide tailored support to students with a range of needs, ensuring they feel safe, included, and able to engage positively in school life.

SEND Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Work on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to support learning and development
  • Assist in adapting classroom activities and resources to meet individual needs
  • Support students with communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction
  • Help implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) where applicable
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour in learning settings
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Contribute to creating a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to relevant staff

SEND Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable
  • Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or learning difficulties is highly desirable
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting learners
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm, consistent, and supportive in challenging situations
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to adapt to individual student needs
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
