Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: North Yorkshire
Contract: Part time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are searching for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to work within local schools in North Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning, build confidence, and achieve meaningful progress in their education.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to provide tailored support to students with a range of needs, ensuring they feel safe, included, and able to engage positively in school life.
SEND Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Work on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to support learning and development
- Assist in adapting classroom activities and resources to meet individual needs
- Support students with communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction
- Help implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) where applicable
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour in learning settings
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
- Contribute to creating a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to relevant staff
SEND Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable
- Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or learning difficulties is highly desirable
- A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting learners
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm, consistent, and supportive in challenging situations
- A proactive attitude and willingness to adapt to individual student needs
- An understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
