Job Title: Learning Mentor
Location: North Yorkshire
Contract: Part time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are currently hiring dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Mentors to work in secondary schools across North Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. This opportunity is based within a supportive and inclusive school environment that is committed to helping every student succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with students who may require additional support with their learning, attendance, behaviour, or emotional wellbeing. You will play a key role in encouraging engagement, promoting resilience, and helping students develop the skills and confidence needed to thrive in education and beyond.
Main Responsibilities as a Learning Mentor:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring support to students requiring additional guidance.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students to support their personal, social, and academic development.
- Help students overcome barriers to learning and improve engagement in education.
- Support the implementation of intervention programmes, behaviour support plans, and pastoral initiatives.
- Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, self-confidence, and independence.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, parents, and external agencies where appropriate.
- Monitor and record student progress, attendance, and wellbeing.
- Support students in developing effective study habits, organisational skills, and positive attitudes towards learning.
- Promote safeguarding, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all learners.
- Contribute to creating a positive, safe, and supportive school environment.
Learning Mentor Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, mentoring, youth work, pastoral, or support role.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships and engage effectively with young people.
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students.
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
