Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay: £460–£600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education are inviting applications for an SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within supportive schools in Sheffield. We are looking for a compassionate and proactive teacher who can help students overcome barriers to learning while promoting confidence, engagement, and emotional wellbeing.

The SEMH Teaching Assistant role provides a meaningful opportunity to support students on both their educational and personal development journeys, helping them achieve positive outcomes in and beyond the classroom.

Responsibilities of SEMH TA:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs during lessons and school activities
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help students develop emotional regulation strategies
  • Build trusting relationships that promote engagement and confidence
  • Support teachers in delivering inclusive learning experiences
  • Assist with implementing individual support plans and intervention strategies
  • Contribute to a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment

Requirements for SEMH TA:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional support needs is desirable
  • Understanding of strategies that support emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting students
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a wider support team
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
