Cover Supervisor
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Contract: Part-Time, Temporary, Supply
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92-£120 per day

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a confident and reliable Cover Supervisor to work within secondary schools in Scarborough and the surrounding areas.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, or individuals with experience working with young people who are looking to develop their skills within an educational setting. The role provides a strong foundation for those considering a future career in teaching or education support.
About the Role:
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged with the work set. You will manage classroom behaviour, support students in staying on task, and help maintain a calm and productive learning environment.
You will not be responsible for planning, delivering lessons, or assessing student work. Instead, you will ensure continuity of learning by facilitating pre-prepared work and maintaining positive classroom standards.
Key Responsibilities of the Cover Supervisor:
- Supervise classes in the absence of teaching staff
- Deliver pre-set work and instructions provided by the class teacher
- Ensure students remain on task and engaged in learning activities
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
- Support a positive and productive learning environment
- Provide feedback to teaching staff on student engagement and behaviour
- Assist with general school duties where required
- Promote respect, discipline, and positive attitudes towards learning
As the Ideal Cover Supervisor, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people in any capacity (school, coaching, tutoring, youth work, etc.)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence in managing groups of students
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a classroom setting
- A proactive and positive approach to supporting learning
- A genuine interest in education and working with young people
- A degree is advantageous but not essential
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with young people
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
