GSL Education are currently looking for an enthusiastic and committed SEMH Teacher to work in specialist and alternative education settings across Scarborough and the surrounding areas. This role is based within a supportive provision that caters for pupils who require a more tailored approach to learning, including those with complex behavioural and emotional needs.

As an SEMH Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering accessible, engaging, and differentiated lessons that meet the diverse needs of learners. You will play a key role in creating a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment where students can build trust, confidence, and a positive attitude towards education.

Main Responsibilities as an SEMH Teacher:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to students with SEMH needs.
  • Support pupils with complex behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties in accessing learning.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies and positive reinforcement approaches.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support engagement and progress.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet individual learning needs and abilities.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and pastoral teams.
  • Assess, monitor, and record student progress in line with individual education plans.
  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour in the classroom.
  • Create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and ensure the welfare of all students at all times.

SEMH Teacher Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills, particularly in specialist settings.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners to achieve their potential.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
