Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Part time, Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are seeking a committed Learning Support Assistant to work within local schools in York and the surrounding areas. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students in achieving their full potential, both academically and personally, while helping to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored assistance to students across a range of abilities. This role is particularly suited to individuals who have experience supporting, or an interest in supporting, students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including those with additional learning, communication, social, emotional, or behavioural needs.
Learning Support Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide classroom support to students across a range of subjects and year groups
- Work on a 1:1 basis and with small groups to support learning and engagement
- Assist students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to access the curriculum effectively
- Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual student needs
- Support students' social, emotional, and academic development
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
Learning Support Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable
- Experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is highly desirable and encouraged
- A patient, compassionate, and adaptable approach to supporting learners
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
