Job Title: Sen Teacher
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or Sooner
Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 per annum

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and experienced SEN Teacher to undertake short-term cover and long-term placements within schools in Scarborough and the surrounding areas.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to work with pupils who require additional support to access learning, helping to remove barriers and ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

About the Role:

As an SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering tailored and differentiated lessons to students with a range of Special Educational Needs. You will work closely with support staff, SENCOs, and wider school teams to create structured, supportive, and engaging learning experiences that meet individual needs.

You will be teaching learners with a variety of needs, which may include Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH needs, moderate learning difficulties, and complex learning profiles. Your approach will be adaptive, patient, and focused on progress in all areas of development.

Core Responsibilities of the SEN Teacher:

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to individual learner needs
  • Teach pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs across appropriate key stages
  • Implement and review individual education plans and support strategies
  • Adapt teaching methods to support engagement, understanding, and progress
  • Create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Work closely with SENCOs, teaching assistants, and external professionals
  • Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress and development
  • Support both academic and personal development of learners
  • Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, and independence

As the Ideal SEN Teacher, You Should Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching children or young people with SEN in a school setting
  • Strong understanding of a range of additional needs and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Ability to differentiate effectively to meet diverse learning needs
  • Excellent classroom management and behaviour support skills
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine commitment to inclusion and improving outcomes for SEN learners

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working within an educational setting
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
