Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or Sooner
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to work within local schools in York and the surrounding areas. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by supporting students who may present with behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties, helping them to engage positively in learning and school life.
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and SEN departments to promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and inclusion within the classroom and wider school environment.
Behaviour Support Assistant Responsibilities:
- Support students with behavioural, emotional, and social needs in and out of the classroom
- Assist teaching staff in managing behaviour and promoting positive learning attitudes
- Provide 1:1 and small group interventions to support emotional regulation and engagement
- Implement behaviour support strategies consistently in line with school policies
- Help students develop coping strategies, resilience, and self-confidence
- Encourage positive relationships and social interaction among peers
- Support the creation of a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
- Record and report behavioural incidents and progress where required
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies
Behaviour Support Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable
- Experience supporting behavioural, SEMH, or additional needs is highly advantageous
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach to challenging situations
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to remain consistent, proactive, and supportive under pressure
- A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their potential
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
