Salary: £95 - £115 per day (depending on experience)

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to work within schools across Tyne and Wear. This rewarding role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting pupils with behavioural, emotional, and social needs while helping them develop confidence, resilience, and positive attitudes towards learning.

We are looking for someone who understands that every behaviour tells a story. Through consistency, encouragement, and positive relationship-building, you will play a key role in helping students make progress both academically and personally.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional support to manage their behaviour, emotions, and engagement in school. You will provide targeted interventions, act as a positive role model, and help create an environment where pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support for students
  • Support pupils with behavioural, emotional, and social challenges
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Promote engagement in learning and school activities
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and families
  • Monitor and record student progress and behaviour where required
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
  • Uphold safeguarding and school policies at all times

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Ability to motivate and inspire young people
  • Confidence managing challenging situations positively and professionally
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Commitment to supporting pupils' wellbeing and personal development
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
