SEN Teacher

Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: £168.80 - £261.79 per day (MPS/UPS equivalent)

GSL Education are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teacher to work with children and young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities across specialist and alternative provision settings in Scarborough from September 2026.

We welcome applications from Early Years, Primary, Secondary, and Further Education trained teachers who have experience supporting learners with additional needs and are committed to creating inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environments.

About the Role:

As an SEN Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Support pupils with a range of needs, which may include Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and other additional needs.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment that promotes confidence, independence, and progress.
  • Adapt teaching strategies, resources, and communication methods to meet individual EHCP targets and learning outcomes.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, SENCOs, therapists, parents, carers, and external agencies to provide holistic support.
  • Monitor, assess, and track student progress, celebrating achievements and identifying next steps.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing through consistent, relationship-based approaches.
  • Support pupils in developing academic, social, emotional, and life skills.

The Ideal SEN Teacher Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive teaching practices and differentiated learning.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and classroom management skills.
  • A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach to supporting learners.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
