GSL Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to undertake short-term cover and long-term placements within secondary schools in York and the surrounding areas.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and motivated practitioner to take on a more involved classroom support role, working closely with teaching staff, inclusion teams, and SEN specialists to enhance pupil progress and wellbeing.

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support learning across the school. You will assist in planning-related activities, deliver targeted interventions, and support both individuals and small groups of pupils to ensure they can access learning effectively.

This role also involves helping to guide and support other classroom support staff, contributing to a consistent and high-quality approach to pupil support across the setting. You will play an active part in promoting positive behaviour, inclusion, and academic progress for all learners.

Key Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant:

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities
  • Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning and close gaps in progress
  • Assist in implementing targeted interventions to support pupil development
  • Contribute to planning-related discussions and preparation of learning materials
  • Support pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development
  • Help maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement with learning
  • Support communication between pupils, staff, and parents where appropriate
  • Assist in guiding and supporting less experienced classroom support staff
  • Work collaboratively with SENCO and inclusion teams to meet pupil needs

As the Ideal Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational setting
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • A proactive and supportive approach to pupil development
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required
  • Understanding of inclusion, safeguarding, and child protection practices
  • Confidence in supporting learners with a range of abilities and needs
  • A positive, resilient, and enthusiastic attitude

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
