Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Newcastle
Pay: £95–£115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term
Passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and helping them succeed in their learning journey?
GSL Education are currently recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support within learning environments in Newcastle. We are looking for a compassionate and resilient individual who can help students overcome barriers to learning while promoting confidence and emotional wellbeing.
The SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting students who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance.
Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to students experiencing social, emotional, and mental health challenges
- Help learners develop positive coping strategies and emotional awareness
- Encourage engagement during lessons and support participation in learning activities
- Assist with implementing individual support plans and behaviour strategies
- Build positive relationships that promote trust, confidence, and wellbeing
- Work alongside staff to create a supportive and structured learning environment
Requirements for SEMH TA:
- Experience supporting children or young people in education, care, or support settings
- Understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and supportive in challenging situations
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to promoting positive outcomes for students
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
