Teacher of History
Location: Fulford and surrounding areas, North Yorkshire
Contract: Part-Time, Temporary, Supply
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 per annum

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a passionate and knowledgeable Teacher of History to undertake short-term cover and long-term placements within secondary schools in Fulford and the surrounding areas.
This is an exciting opportunity to engage students in the study of history, encouraging them to develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deeper understanding of historical events and their significance. The successful candidate will play a key role in fostering curiosity, independent enquiry, and a lifelong appreciation for the subject.
About the Role:
As a Teacher of History, you will deliver engaging and challenging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping learners to explore a broad range of historical topics and perspectives. You will create a stimulating learning environment where students are encouraged to question, investigate, and evaluate evidence while developing their knowledge and understanding of the past.
Key Responsibilities of the Teacher of History:
- Plan and deliver high-quality History lessons that engage and challenge learners
- Teach a broad and balanced History curriculum across KS3 and KS4
- Encourage critical thinking, independent research, and analytical discussion
- Support students in developing strong source analysis and essay-writing skills
- Assess, monitor, and track learner progress, providing constructive feedback
- Differentiate learning to meet the needs of students with varying abilities
- Maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom management
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support curriculum development and learner achievement
- Contribute to enrichment opportunities and activities that enhance students’ understanding of history
As the Ideal Teacher of History, You Should Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification
- Experience teaching History within a secondary school setting
- Strong subject knowledge and a passion for historical education
- Ability to inspire and motivate learners of varying abilities
- Excellent classroom management and organisational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to achieving positive learner outcomes
- A proactive and collaborative approach to teaching and learning
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience teaching within an educational setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
