GSL Education are currently recruiting committed and compassionate Level 2 Teaching Assistants to join an educational setting, undertaking casual and flexible work within schools in York and the surrounding areas.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking part-time, flexible, or reduced-hours work rather than a full 5-day week. The role offers variety and the chance to support pupils with diverse and complex learning needs across a specialist educational setting.

About the Role:

As a Level 2 Teaching Assistant, you will provide general classroom support to students across a range of provisions, working closely with teaching staff to support learning, engagement, and personal development.

You will be working with children and young people with a variety of needs, including moderate and severe learning difficulties, SEMH needs, Autism Spectrum Conditions, challenging behaviours, complex medical needs, and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).

Core Responsibilities of the Level 2 Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide in-class support to learners with a wide range of additional needs
  • Assist teaching staff in delivering accessible and engaging learning activities
  • Support students with communication, interaction, and personal development needs
  • Help manage behaviour in a calm, consistent, and supportive manner
  • Provide personal care and physical support where required
  • Encourage independence, engagement, and positive learning experiences
  • Adapt support strategies to meet individual pupil needs
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams

As the Ideal Level 2 Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally with additional needs
  • A Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a supply, as-needed basis

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
