GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to work in secondary schools across Northumberland from September 2026. About the Role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will oversee classes during teacher absences, ensuring students remain engaged with their learning and complete the work set. You will be responsible for maintaining positive behaviour, supporting student engagement, and creating a calm and focused classroom environment.
This is a part-time position, making it ideal for individuals seeking flexibility while remaining committed to supporting schools and students on a regular basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver pre-planned lessons in the absence of the classroom teacher
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively and professionally
- Ensure students remain focused, engaged, and on task
- Support students in completing assigned work
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment
- Encourage participation and engagement in lessons
- Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding lesson progress and student behaviour
- Follow safeguarding, behaviour, and school policies at all times
- Promote high standards of conduct and learning expectations
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people is desirable
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence managing groups of students in a classroom setting
- Adaptable, resilient, and proactive approach
- Ability to motivate, engage, and encourage learners
- Professional, reliable, and committed to student success
- Available to work on a regular part-time basis
- Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
- Previous classroom experience is beneficial but not essential
