Job Title: Teacher of RE
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Part time, Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 per annum

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Teacher of Religious Education (RE) to undertake short-term cover and long-term placements within local schools in York and the surrounding areas. This is a rewarding opportunity to work flexibly in education while supporting students to develop respect, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of religion, ethics, and philosophy.
As a Teacher of RE, you will deliver engaging and inclusive lessons that encourage thoughtful discussion and independent thinking. You will help students explore a range of religious traditions, moral questions, and contemporary issues in a balanced and respectful way.
Teacher of RE Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver high-quality Religious Education lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
- Encourage students to explore different religions, beliefs, and ethical perspectives
- Develop students’ critical thinking, reasoning, and discussion skills
- Support learners of varying abilities to achieve their full potential
- Assess, monitor, and record student progress effectively
- Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment
- Promote understanding, tolerance, and appreciation of diverse cultures and beliefs
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support student achievement and wellbeing
Teacher of RE Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification
- Specialism in Religious Education, Philosophy, Theology, or a related subject
- Experience teaching RE at secondary school level
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
- A passion for Religious Education and student development
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
