Job Title: Learning Mentor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Part time, Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are currently seeking dedicated and supportive Learning Mentors to work in secondary schools across York and the surrounding areas. Whether you are looking for short-term assignments, long-term placements, or full-time opportunities, we can help you find a role that suits your experience and career aspirations.
As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with students who require additional support with their learning, behaviour, attendance, or personal development. You will play a key role in encouraging engagement, promoting wellbeing, and helping students develop the skills needed to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
Main Responsibilities as a Learning Mentor:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students who require additional guidance and encouragement.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students to support their personal, social, and academic development.
- Help students overcome barriers to learning and improve engagement in education.
- Support the implementation of individual learning plans and intervention strategies.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external agencies to meet students' needs.
- Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, self-confidence, and independence.
- Monitor and record student progress, attendance, and wellbeing where required.
- Support students during lessons and around the school environment as appropriate.
- Promote safeguarding, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all learners.
Learning Mentor Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, mentoring, youth work, or support role.
- A good understanding of the challenges that can impact student engagement and achievement.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to motivate and encourage students from a range of backgrounds and abilities.
- Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting young people.
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
