Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Middlesbrough
Salary: £90 – £120 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Part-time / Full-time

GSL Education are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants (TA) to work within supportive schools across the Middlesbrough area. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and helping them achieve their full potential.

As an SEMH TA, you will play a vital role in supporting students who may face emotional or behavioural challenges, helping them to engage positively with their learning in a safe and structured environment.

Your Role as an SEMH TA Will Include:

  • Supporting students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
  • Assisting in the implementation of tailored support and behaviour plans
  • Promoting a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Supporting students in developing emotional regulation and social skills
  • Assisting the teacher in managing classroom behaviour and de-escalating situations
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Ensuring all safeguarding and school policies are followed at all times

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (school, care, youth work, or similar)
  • Strong communication skills, patience, and resilience
  • The ability to build rapport and support positive behaviour change
  • A calm, adaptable, and proactive approach
  • Relevant qualifications (desirable but not essential)
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
