Contract: Part time, Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £168.80 – £261.79 per day

GSL Education are currently seeking for a passionate and dedicated Teacher of Religious Education to undertake short-term cover and long-term placements within secondary schools in York and the surrounding areas. This is an excellent opportunity to inspire students to think critically about religion, philosophy, and ethics, while supporting their personal development and understanding of the world around them.
This role is based within a well-established and high-achieving secondary school environment in York, where there is a strong emphasis on academic excellence, inclusive learning, and student wellbeing.
About the Role:
As a Teacher of Religious Education, you will deliver engaging and thought-provoking lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, covering a range of world religions, philosophical questions, and ethical issues. You will encourage respectful debate, critical thinking, and independent reflection, helping students develop a deeper understanding of diverse beliefs and perspectives.
Core Responsibilities of the Teacher of RE:
- Plan and deliver high-quality RE lessons that engage and challenge learners
- Teach a broad RE curriculum across KS3, KS4 and KS5
- Encourage discussion, critical thinking, and respectful debate on ethical and philosophical topics
- Support students in developing understanding of different world religions and belief systems
- Assess, track, and report on student progress effectively
- Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and tolerance
- Contribute to curriculum development and enrichment activities
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support whole-school improvement
As the Ideal Teacher of RE, You Should Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification
- Experience teaching Religious Education in a secondary school setting
- Strong subject knowledge of world religions, ethics, and philosophy
- Ability to engage and inspire learners of varying abilities
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills
- A reflective and open-minded approach to teaching and learning
- A commitment to promoting inclusion, respect, and understanding
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working within an educational environment
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
