Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Gateshead
Salary: £90 – £115 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Part-time / Full-time
GSL Education are currently recruiting a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in a supportive school in Gateshead. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Key Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Assist in managing behaviour positively and effectively
- Support students in regulating emotions and engaging with learning
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to implement support strategies
- Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment
- Encourage social development and build students’ confidence
Requirements for an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (preferred)
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- The ability to build trusting relationships with pupils
- Relevant qualifications (desirable but not essential)
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
