Job Title: Pastoral Support Officer

Location: Northumberland
Salary: £95 - £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity (5 Days per Week)

GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Pastoral Support Officer to work within schools across Northumberland from September 2026. This rewarding role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting students' wellbeing and helping them overcome barriers that may impact their learning, attendance, or personal development.

As a Pastoral Support Officer, you will often be the trusted adult that students turn to when they need guidance, reassurance, or encouragement. Your ability to build positive relationships and provide consistent support can have a lasting impact on a young person's confidence, wellbeing, and success in school.

The Role

You will work closely with students who may require additional emotional, social, or behavioural support, helping them to engage positively with school life and achieve their full potential. Working alongside teachers, SEN staff, safeguarding teams, and families, you will play a key role in creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where pupils can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small group pastoral support
  • Support students with emotional wellbeing, attendance, and behaviour
  • Build strong, professional, and trusting relationships with young people
  • Encourage confidence, resilience, and positive engagement with learning
  • Assist with behaviour support plans and intervention strategies
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs, and safeguarding staff
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment
  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to support and motivate students facing challenges
  • Professional, reliable, and committed to making a difference
  • Team Teach training is a strong advantage
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
  • Available to work 5 days per week from September 2026
