Job Title: Cover Supervisor
Location: Sunderland
Salary: £100 - £130 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time | 5 Days per Week

GSL Education are seeking enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to join schools across Sunderland from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, sports coaches, youth workers, learning mentors, or experienced education professionals looking to gain valuable classroom experience.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will be a key part of the school community, stepping into classrooms to ensure learning continues when teachers are absent. More than simply supervising lessons, you will help create a calm, productive, and positive learning environment where students can remain focused and engaged.
We are looking for individuals who can build positive relationships with young people, maintain high expectations, and confidently lead a classroom. Strong communication skills are essential to interact effectively with students, colleagues, and parents, while adaptability is key to managing the varied and sometimes unpredictable nature of school life.
The Role
You will supervise pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects, ensuring students stay on task and follow school expectations. You will support positive behaviour, encourage participation, and act as a professional role model for pupils throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials in the teacher's absence
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively and professionally
- Encourage student engagement and participation in learning
- Build positive and respectful relationships with pupils
- Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment
- Liaise with teaching staff and provide lesson feedback
- Follow safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with young people is desirable
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence leading groups of students
- Adaptable, resilient, and able to think on your feet
- Professional, reliable, and committed to supporting student success
- Ability to motivate and engage learners
- Team Teach training is a strong advantage
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
- Available to work 5 days per week from September 2026
