Salary: £90 - £110 per day (depending on experience)

GSL Education are recruiting a dedicated Behaviour Support Mentor to work within schools across Newcastle upon Tyne from September. This role is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys building positive relationships with young people and understands that behaviour is often a form of communication.

We are looking for individuals who can provide consistency, encouragement, and guidance to students who may be facing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges. Every day is different, and your ability to remain calm, trustworthy, and supportive could have a lasting impact on a young person's future.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will work closely with students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them regulate emotions, improve behaviour, and engage positively with their education. You will become a trusted adult who helps pupils build confidence, develop coping strategies, and achieve success in school.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support
  • Building positive and meaningful relationships with students
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Helping students develop social skills, confidence, and resilience
  • Encouraging engagement in learning and school activities
  • Working alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Promoting positive behaviour through consistency and encouragement
  • Maintaining a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Confidence managing challenging behaviour positively
  • The ability to motivate and inspire young people
  • Patience, trustworthiness, and reliability — essential qualities for building strong mentoring relationships
  • Team Teach training is a strong advantage and highly desirable
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
