Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support
Location: Barnsley
Salary: £460 – £650 per week
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately

GSL Education are seeking enthusiastic and adaptable individuals with a background in sports, coaching, or fitness to support pupils within primary school settings across Barnsley. This is a school-based support role focused on classroom assistance, behaviour support, and student engagement rather than sports delivery.

About the Role:
As a Sports Coach / Learning Support member of staff, you will work closely with teachers to support pupils across the classroom, including children with additional learning or behavioural needs. You may provide SEN support, assist with small group interventions, supervise activities, and help maintain a calm and structured environment. Your sports or coaching background will be valuable in building positive relationships, encouraging participation, and supporting behaviour management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils during classroom activities and structured learning sessions

  • Provide behaviour and emotional support to help pupils stay engaged

  • Work with small groups and individual children, including pupils with SEN needs

  • Assist teachers with classroom organisation and learning resources

  • Promote positive routines, teamwork, and respectful behaviour

  • Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment

Requirements:

  • Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth work, or similar active roles

  • Confidence working with primary-aged children

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Calm, patient, and adaptable approach

  • Genuine interest in supporting children within an education setting
