Looking for a Sports Coach / Learning Support in Rotherham!

Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support
Location: Rotherham
Salary: £460 – £650 per week
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately

Are you looking to transfer your sports, coaching, or fitness experience into a rewarding school-based support role? GSL Education is seeking confident and motivated individuals to work within schools across Rotherham, supporting students both inside and outside the classroom.

This role is not focused on sports delivery or PE teaching. Instead, you will use the transferable skills gained through coaching and fitness environments — such as behaviour management, communication, motivation, and structure — to support young people in an educational setting.

About the School:
The schools are welcoming and inclusive environments that place a strong emphasis on student wellbeing, engagement, and positive behaviour. Staff work collaboratively to provide structured support for students with a range of learning, behavioural, and additional needs. Schools value reliable support staff who can build strong relationships and help create a calm and focused learning atmosphere.

About the Role:
As a Sports Coach / Learning Support member of staff, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to provide classroom support, behaviour support, SEN support, and occasional cover supervision where required. Your role will involve helping students remain engaged in lessons, encouraging positive behaviour, and supporting pupils who may need additional guidance throughout the school day.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students in lessons across a range of subjects

  • Provide classroom, behaviour, and SEN support where needed

  • Supervise classes during short-term teacher absences

  • Use coaching and mentoring skills to motivate and engage students

  • Help maintain a safe, positive, and structured learning environment

  • Build positive relationships with students and staff across the school

  • Provide feedback to teaching staff on student progress and engagement

Requirements:

  • Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth work, or similar environments

  • Confidence working with children or young people

  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills

  • Calm, proactive, and adaptable approach

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Genuine interest in supporting students within education settings

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with a sporting background to gain valuable experience in schools while making a positive impact on students’ learning, behaviour, and confidence.
