Job description

Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 – £650 per week
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately

GSL Education is looking for energetic and motivated individuals with a sports background to work in secondary school settings across Sheffield. These roles are based in school environments where the focus is on classroom support, behaviour support, cover supervision, and learning assistance across Secondary classrooms.

This is not a sports coaching role in the traditional sense. Your sporting background is used as a foundation for managing behaviour, building engagement, and supporting students to stay focused and regulated within the classroom.

About the Role:
This Sports Coach / Learning Support role is ideal for individuals from sports, coaching, or fitness backgrounds who want to move into education. You will support teachers in the classroom, assist with behaviour management, and help students stay engaged in learning. The focus is on school-based support rather than delivering sport or PE sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers in delivering classroom learning and structured activities

  • Provide cover supervision across secondary school lessons

  • Assist with behaviour support and student engagement in learning

  • Use transferable skills from sport (discipline, motivation, structure) to support pupils

  • Help maintain a calm, safe, and structured classroom environment

  • Support students 1:1 or in small groups where required

  • Report progress and concerns to teaching staff

Requirements:

  • Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth work, or similar roles

  • Confidence working with young people in a structured environment

  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills

  • Ability to remain calm, consistent, and professional

  • Willingness to work in a school-based support capacity, not a coaching role

  • A genuine interest in supporting student development and learning

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals in Sheffield looking to transition from sport into education and build experience supporting young people in secondary schools.

To work with GSL Education in this role, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK

  • Hold an up-to-date CV with two references from the last 2 years

  • Have an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
