Job Title: SEMH Teacher
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 per annum*

GSL Education is currently hiring a motivated SEMH Teacher to join a specialist primary provision in York on a long-term basis. This is a rewarding opportunity for a compassionate educator who is passionate about supporting children with additional behavioural and emotional needs in a nurturing learning environment.
About the school:
The school is a specialist provision supporting students with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, communication difficulties, and other barriers to mainstream education. It provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to develop socially, emotionally, and academically.
Staff work collaboratively to deliver consistent support, using clear behaviour strategies and therapeutic approaches to help students manage emotions, build resilience, and improve engagement.
SEMH Teacher Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to pupils’ individual needs.
- Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, confidence, and social development.
- Promote positive behaviour strategies and effective classroom management.
- Create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
- Work closely with support staff, parents, and external professionals.
- Monitor pupil progress and adapt teaching approaches where necessary.
- Maintain safeguarding standards and follow school policies at all times.
Requirements of an SEMH Teacher:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs in a school setting.
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- Patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to teaching.
- Ability to deliver engaging and adaptable lessons.
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for a new one).
