Learning Support Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: £92 – £115 per day
GSL Education are currently recruiting for a caring and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to work within schools across York from September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people to achieve their full potential.
The role will involve supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom, helping to promote engagement, confidence, wellbeing, and academic progress. You may work with students on a 1:1 basis, within small intervention groups, or alongside the class teacher to support whole-class learning.
This position would suit experienced Teaching Assistants, graduates, youth workers, support workers, or individuals looking to begin a rewarding career within education.
About The Role as a Learning Support Assistant:
- Support students within classroom lessons across a range of subjects and year groups.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students who require additional assistance.
- Assist students with SEN including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and learning needs.
- Support positive behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
- Help teachers prepare learning resources and classroom activities.
- Encourage student confidence, independence, and participation in lessons.
- Build positive and professional relationships with students, staff, and parents where appropriate.
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
The Ideal Learning Support Assistant Will Have:
- Experience working with children or young people, either professionally or voluntarily.
- A patient, caring, and adaptable approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations.
- A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development.
- Previous school or SEN experience is desirable but not essential.
