Graduate Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time | Long-Term Position
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school setting in York from September 2026 on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, pastoral support, SEN, or youth work. The role offers valuable hands-on classroom experience supporting students across a range of subjects and abilities.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to support learning, engagement, behaviour, and student wellbeing both inside and outside of the classroom.

About The Role as a Graduate Teaching Assistant:

  • Support students within classroom lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Work with small groups and individual students to reinforce learning and improve confidence.
  • Assist teachers with classroom preparation, resources, and lesson activities.
  • Support students with additional needs including SEN, SEMH, ASC, ADHD, and literacy or communication difficulties.
  • Help maintain positive behaviour and a structured learning environment.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students and staff.
  • Support intervention sessions, revision groups, and pastoral activities where appropriate.
  • Contribute positively to the wider school environment and student experience.

The Ideal Graduate Teaching Assistant Will Have:

  • A degree in any subject area.
  • A genuine interest in education and supporting young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, patient, and adaptable approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships quickly.
  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.
