Location: Barnsley
Salary: £460 – £650 per week
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately

GSL Education is seeking energetic and motivated individuals with a sports, coaching or fitness background to support pupils in primary school settings across Barnsley. These are school-based support roles where you will assist with learning, support classroom routines and help pupils stay engaged and regulated throughout the school day.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to transition from sport or fitness into education, using coaching skills to support behaviour, structure and engagement in a primary classroom environment. Sport is your background, but the focus of this role is learning support, behaviour support and classroom assistance, not sports delivery.

About the Role:
This role is ideal for individuals from sports coaching, fitness instruction or youth work backgrounds who are interested in working within primary education. You will support class teachers, assist with learning activities and help pupils remain focused, calm and engaged. You may also support EYFS, KS1 and KS2 pupils, as well as small group interventions or behaviour support where required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers in delivering lessons and classroom-based learning activities

  • Work across primary year groups including EYFS, KS1 and KS2

  • Provide classroom support, cover supervision and behaviour support where needed

  • Use sports and coaching experience to encourage engagement and positive behaviour

  • Support pupils with focus, structure and routine throughout the school day

  • Assist with small group interventions and SEN support when required

  • Help maintain a safe, positive and well-structured learning environment

Requirements:

  • Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth work or similar experience

  • Experience or confidence working with primary-aged children

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Calm, consistent and adaptable approach to behaviour support

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a school team

  • Genuine interest in supporting children’s learning and development in education

This is a fantastic opportunity for sports coaches and active individuals in Barnsley to step into primary school settings and gain valuable experience supporting children in their early education journey.

  • Have the right to work in the UK

  • Hold an up-to-date CV with two references from the last 2 years

  • Have an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
