Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Salary: £460 – £600 per week
Contract Type: Full-time, long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately
Are you calm, resilient and passionate about supporting young people who need additional emotional and behavioural support? A supportive and inclusive school in Rotherham is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work closely with students who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
About the School:
The school provides a safe, structured and nurturing environment for pupils with a range of additional needs, including SEMH and behavioural challenges. Staff work collaboratively to build strong relationships with students, placing a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, consistency and positive behaviour support. A trauma-informed and student-centred approach underpins the school’s daily practice.
About the Role:
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students across KS3 and KS4 who require help with emotional regulation, engagement and access to learning. You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide consistent in-class and targeted support, helping students build trust, confidence and positive learning behaviours.
Responsibilities:

Support students with SEMH needs across secondary classrooms (KS3 and KS4)

Provide one-to-one and small group support focused on behaviour and emotional regulation

Assist teaching staff in managing behaviour in line with school policies

Help students engage with learning and remain focused in lessons

Contribute to a calm, structured and supportive classroom environment

Build positive, consistent relationships with students to encourage progress
Requirements:
-
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN or behavioural needs is desirable

Strong understanding of behaviour support strategies and emotional regulation

Calm, patient and resilient approach in challenging situations

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team

Genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable young people in education
