Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 – £650 per week
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day
Start Date: Immediately

GSL Education is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals with a background in sports, coaching, fitness, or youth work to support secondary schools across Sheffield. This is a school-based support role focused on classroom assistance, behaviour support, cover supervision and student engagement throughout the school day.

This opportunity is ideal for candidates looking to transfer skills gained through sports or coaching into education settings. Your background in teamwork, structure, communication and behaviour management will help support students in a positive and consistent learning environment.

About the Role:
As a Sports Coach / Learning Support member of staff, your main responsibilities will centre around supporting students within the classroom rather than delivering sports sessions. You will work alongside teachers and pastoral teams to provide learning support, behaviour support and classroom supervision across a range of subjects. You may also support students with SEN needs, small group interventions or one-to-one support where required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers with classroom activities and daily learning support

  • Provide behaviour support and encourage positive engagement in lessons

  • Supervise classes during teacher absences as a cover supervisor

  • Work with students on a one-to-one or small group basis where needed

  • Use coaching and mentoring skills to build positive relationships with pupils

  • Help maintain a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment

Requirements:

  • Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth work, mentoring or similar roles

  • Confidence supporting and engaging young people in structured settings

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • A proactive, patient and adaptable approach

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a school team

  • Genuine interest in supporting young people within education
